Dr. Avkash Jadhav

A B.A. (Gold Medallist) in History and a Ph.D. in The Labour Movement, Dr. Avkash Jadhav’s scholarly works revolve around Labour Studies, Religion, philosophy, human rights, ancient and modern Indian history, etc. He has extensively worked on the Indian Philosophy and the Buddhist philosophy. He has published several research papers on Buddhism and has been teaching Buddhism for past several years. Some his papers on Buddhism are published on National and International journals and books. He is recipient of around 9 scholarships for his academic excellence like D. D. Kosambi Scholarship, Merit Scholarship, William Cohelo and C. M. Kulkarni scholarship etc. He was also awarded the Prestigious Asiatic Society Fellowship to pursue studies on Gandhian Philosophy. He has conducted more than 30 Surveys on various issues and the findings of the Surveys are now used by the government agencies for policy consideration.
He is known to be an innovative teacher with the usage of encouraging documentary making, oral documentation, conducting research based assignments, surveys, on field research, interview techniques, innovative methods of using ICT, etc.
He has participated in more than 240 International and National Conferences, Seminars and Workshops and is affiliated to various academic bodies. He has around 30 publications to his credit. He has authored the books on History of Bombay, History of USA, History of Modern Maharashtra and he has authored a Textbook on History which is used by the Goa Board for the Xth Standard students.

Dr. Avkash Jadhav was nominated as a Municipal Councillor in the B.M.C. (2012-2017) as a representative from the academic section. He has so far commissioned more than 40 Surveys on Social issues and some of the findings are used by Government bodies. He has guided more than 35 documentaries. He has received so far more than 18 National and International Awards for his social work, human rights activities, and environmental and Heritage activism. He has been felicitated by The National Human Rights Centre thrice for his work in Human Rights, Pragat Maharashtra Award, Manav Seva Puraskar, Babu Jagjivan ram Rashtriya Puraskar, Vivekanand Yuva Gaurav Puraskar, National Talent Merit Award, etc. In 2017 and 2019 he was conferred with Karmaveer Chakra by Rex Fellowship iCONGO allied body of United Nations. He received Swami Vivekanand Puraskar From the Ministry of Youth and Culture Affairs in 2019
His most notable feats and achievements as a Municipal Councillor include:
* Introducing a ‘Cultural Policy’ to be adopted for the city of Mumbai to promote intangible and tangible heritage.
* His policy for the Protection and Preservation of Heritage in Mumbai was approved by the BMC and it got the sanction of Rs. 5 crore for the same.
* He was adjudged amongst the Top Ten Municipal Councillors of Mumbai amongst 232 Councillors for his valuable contribution to the city.
On the recommendation of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Government of India, Dr. Avkash Jadhav represented the country in the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) Conferences in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
He has been recently awarded a Major Research Project by the Indian Council of Historical Research to work on the Documentation of Mill Workers of Mumbai.
He is a Subject Expert on the Censor Board of India, Former Trustee of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalay, Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai, Panellist on Staff Selection Commission, and Visiting Faculty to Train students for Civil Services at the Government of Maharashtra training center. Resource person at various Academic Staff College, Chanakya Leadership Program, and Corporate Training Programs.
He is the Scientific Director of the International body of Global Knowledge Academics from Spain. He is on the Editorial Board of more than Five International Journals. He is also Editor in chief of two international journals 1) International Journal of Emotions Expressions and Dimensions and also of International journal of Concerns Complexities and Dialogues.

He is an avid trekker, poet, and numismatist.
Currently, Dr. Avkash Jadhav is the Head and Associate Professor of the Department of History at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai, the Founder-Trustee of Kaash Foundation, Mumbai, and also, the Director of the Centre for Academic and Professional Development – the allied academic body of Kaash Foundation.

He is an avid reader and also has written various street plays. His poems have received awards and are selected in various national and international Anthologies. His poems’ satire, subtlety, and exposition on various social and current issues are popular and widely appreciated.
